Vidaview: VIP! VIP! at the movie screening of 'Contraband'
Written by Salbondigas

January 12, 2012, 9:16am CST (VIP! VIP! at the movie screening of 'Contraband') Working in the entertainment industry, I have received perks to attend events from concerts to galas to movie screenings. Receiving these types of perks, one tends to lose the appreciation of the experience. Last night I took my younger sister to the movie screening of Contraband and she reconnected me with that experience ...

The movie screening was at the theaters of Ford City Mall (Yes, there was some hesitation to attend). I decided to invite my younger sister and mother to the screening, however, mom decided not to go so it was a brother-sister date. We parked the Cityvida-mobile and walked through the parking lot and saw the line for the movie screening. My sister said, "I hope we get in." I just smiled and kept walking. We approached the woman with the clipboard ... there is always someone with a clipboard. At any rate, I told her that I was on the invited list and she asked for my name. Once she confirmed that I was on the list, she told us to head to the front of the line.

My younger sister whispered to me, "VIP. VIP." I smiled at her. We were escorted in ahead of the waiting crowd and met with the Event Coordinator who thanked us for attending and provided us with our 'Reserved' wristbands. Before we proceeded to theater 5, the Event Coordinator asked if I could take a picture with a local police organization, which I did. After the photo, we purchased some over-priced snacks and walked into the theater. Once we sat down, the awakening happened.

I had the following conversation with my sister, Yaz (YM):

YM: Thank you for making this (experience) special. I feel like a VIP. Everyone was so nice to us and they even wanted to take a picture with you. It was like we were walking the red carpet.

ME: No problem Yaz. What do you think of the experience?

YM: I always have been on the other side of the line, waiting, but it was nice to be on the VIP side for once. I did feel weird though because we were told to go to the front of the line. I did not want to look at the line of people. I kinda feel important.

diegoblogME: (I looked at her and the light bulb went off) Sister, I tend to forgot how lucky I am to receive these things. Talking with you, I have realized that I need to appreciate the experiences of these events. Thank you for being my date.

YM: No problem (smiling sheepishly).

That conversation opened my eyes; I am glad that my younger sister helped me appreciate the experience. Thank you Yaz.

The lights dimmed in the movie theater and the movie started, then stopped 5 minutes into it. Like they say, "We are experiencing some technical difficulties." After about ten minutes, the movie restarted.

The movie features Mark Wahlberg and a surprise role for Diego Luna (see picture). The action and crafty ways the characters get in and out of trouble kept me on the end of my seat. Check out the movie trailer for Contraband, in theaters starting the weekend of January 13, 2012:

I love VIP status. When you get older, you will love it at the clubs and bars too.

Hey, man, just wanted to point out that you made a couple of spelling mistakes. "one tends to loss (lose) the appreciation" and "waiting crowd and meet (met) with the"

Mike, thanks for reading and pointing out my errors. In my excitement to write the Vidaview, I failed to proofread my work. They have been corrected and I plan to take a little extra time to review my work.

Thanks for the support, Salbondigas.
