Description

The Adler Planetarium – America’s First Planetarium – was founded in 1930 by Chicago business leader Max Adler. Following its 75th anniversary, the Adler began a transformation to become the world’s leading space science center and inspire the next generation of explorers by sharing the personal stories of human space exploration and America’s space heroes.

The museum is home to three full-size theaters, including the all-digital projection Definiti® Space Theater, the Sky Theater which utilizes a Zeiss optical projector, and the Universe 3D Theater. It is also home to one of the world's most important antique instrument collections.

The Adler is a recognized leader in science education, with a focus on inspiring young people to pursue careers in science.

Exhibits include: One World, One Sky: Big Bird Adventure; Cosmic Collisions; Shoot for the Moon

NEW EXHIBITION COMING SOON: March 2010
Next spring, the Adler's former Milky Way Galaxy gallery will be the new home of a two-story rocket, space station, and even a new planet to discover! Please pardon our dust as we build this new 8,000 square foot exhibition. Look for more information, including how you can begin the fun at home with online activities, beginning in October.
The Adler is transforming its exhibitions, theaters, and programs in order to fulfill its new vision: to inspire the next generation of explorers and become the world's premier space science center. The Lift-Off! Campaign, a $35 million fundraising initiative, will fuel this transformation.
